Chew Valley destroy Chosen Hill's secret plan for rugby win

By Andrew Tanner in Rugby

Chosen Hill’s cunning plan to beat Chew Valley as reported in the Gloucester Live could well have been dreamt up by Baldrick for all the good it did them as their Chew hosts’ outstanding rugby secured a try bonus point before the half time whistle.

Tries off the training ground through an effective driving maul came first for hooker Jack Monk on 7 minutes followed by a flowing backs move with winger Joe Webb into the line putting g opposite winger Lee Wdlake in at the corner after 11.

A rattled Chosen Hill did themselves no favours with back chat that was never going to be tolerated by referee Craig

Pocock. On 19 minutes another maul saw prop Reg Parfitt collect a try. When the visitors kept hold of the ball they were dangerous and their centre crossed under the posts converted by their outside half. Monk collected his second and the bonus point on the stroke of half time and had the normally reliable Joe Cowell had his kicking boots on Chew Valley would have been away and clear. As it was his solitary conversion was the only return with the boot.

The visitors upped their game in the second half keeping the ball with the forwards and their scrum knicked two against the head early on. Their hooker scored a try converted by their outside half on 50 minutes but their cause was not helped by losing a winger to the bin for afters following a tackle. Scrum half Marcus Adams finished off another driving maul on 65 minutes and Luke Sparkes Brown on the flank for Chew Valley scored their sixth again from a drivng maul. This time it was Tom Bryan’s turn to send a kick wide so that was 11 points missed all told.

The pace of the game exposed fitness levels for both sides but missed tackled presented the visiting blindside with a try when their pick amd go game proved effective. It made for a tense last 10 minutes when replacement fullback crossed for Chosen Hill.

Chew Valley kicked well to make the visitors attack from deep and the elusive score that might have snatched it was denied. Wesern Counties North now looks like a three horse race with Avonmouth tailing off, Keynsham clear but Chosen Hill have them at home on the last game of the season and Chew Valley have a game in hand.
