Police appeal for witnesses after fatal collision in Chew Magna

A driver has died at the scene after a collision on the B3130 between Stanton Drew and Chew Magna on Friday morning.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary are appealing for your help following the fatal traffic collision which happened at 8.50am on B3130 between Stanton Drew and Chew Magna near the white toll house.

According to the police, a Mini Cooper was travelling from Chew Magna towards Stanton Drew when it appears to have crossed the carriageway and was in collision with a Citroen Berlingo van travelling in the opposite direction.

"Significant damage was caused to the Mini in the incident and the driver sadly died at the scene," said the Avon and Somerset Constabulary statement. "The driver of the Citroen sustained chest and rib injuries - not life threatening or life changing."

Following the fatal collision the road was closed from Chew Magna narrows to past the garage and Norton Lane turnings. The road did not reopen until late evening once police had cleared the scene and completed their investigations at the site. They are now appealing for help from any witnesses who may have seen the vehicles before the collision or who saw the collision take place.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help our enquiries," said the police.
